Matri Mandir, located at the heart of Auroville, is a giant golden globe that serves as a meditation center. Established by The Mother, a disciple of Sri Aurobindo, Matri Mandir can be accessed from the Visitor’s Centre. In order to get into this Matri Mandir and explore its glimpse, you need to get passes from the authorities.
Visitors’ Center:
In fact, this Visitors’ Center has a small auditorium and photo gallery where the audiovisual of Auroville’s History is shown. You can also find a café where you can taste ice creams and chocolate cake, and three small stores where hand made goods are exhibited.
Pizzerias:
Though auroville has got a good number of pizzerias, Tanto Pizzeria located on the main road is a must visit shop as it boasts a wide variety of pizzas, chocolate cake, tiramisu and other types of desserts as well.
Bakeries and shops:
There are so many bakeries, small shops and stalls found on the streets of Auroville which are not just aimed at tourists but also at locals as well. They serve freshly baked goods that could be tantalizing to your taste buds. You will also find Roma’s Kitchen off the main road dedicated to North Indian Cuisine.
Auro Beach and Bodhi Beach:
Auro Beach is a sandy beach near auroville and is usually crowded. If you want to enjoy tranquility, then there is also another beach called Serenity beach or Bodhi beach with close proximity to the town.
Auroville has no limitation in terms of sightseeing. As there are so many places to explore around Auroville, it may even take more than three days to explore this vicinity. So, plan accordingly and enjoy your auroville trip.
